High-profile gun cases often place extraordinary pressure on investigators, prosecutors, and agency leadership. In the immediate aftermath of a shooting, key questions emerge quickly: What happened? When did it happen? Who fired first? And how can agencies establish an objective timeline that holds up under scrutiny?
In this webinar, SoundThinking will explore how ShotSpotter forensic analysis can help agencies reconstruct shooting incidents, support investigations, and strengthen courtroom preparation in complex or high-visibility gun cases.
Panelists will discuss how acoustic forensic evidence can establish the timing, cadence, and location of gunfire, and how investigators use that information alongside physical evidence, witness statements, surveillance footage, and ballistic intelligence to develop a clearer picture of events.
The discussion will feature Melissa Dooher, Head of Forensic Services at SoundThinking and a former Assistant District Attorney, alongside Carlos Canino, a former senior ATF leader with decades of investigative experience. Together, they will offer prosecutorial and investigative perspectives on how objective acoustic evidence can support case reconstruction and clarify disputed narratives.
By the end of this webinar, attendees will be able to:
- Understand how acoustic forensic analysis can help reconstruct shooting incidents and establish objective timelines.
- Identify investigative questions gunshot detection data may help answer, including sequencing, shot timing, and location.
- Learn how forensic analysis can complement other forms of evidence, including video, witness statements, shell casing recovery, and ballistic intelligence.
- Hear investigative and prosecutorial perspectives on how forensic reports may support case development and courtroom preparation.
