Gunshot Detection Helps Save Lives
Durham has almost completed its 12-month pilot of the gun detection technology ShotSpotter. Over 80% of gunfire goes unreported.
ShotSpotter steps in and listens and alerts first responders to gunfire incidents in less than a minute, so they can respond quickly, get to the scene, and save lives.
Durham City Council members have paused the pilot and intend to formally receive and review the results of an upcoming Duke University study, which will examine ShotSpotter's efficacy across a number of dimensions, including victims found and lives saved.

Durham Resident Testimonial
“My neighbors and l buy our gas groceries and other things in Mebane because of the gun violence here. Place shot spotter inside the entire city limits. Protect the innocent without prejudice.
Do it now!”
